Discover Hakarime Conger Eel・sake

If you're ever in Tokyo, particularly in the heart of Ginza, you absolutely have to stop by a hidden gem: Hakarime Conger Eel・sake. Located at 〒104-0061 Tokyo, Chuo City, Ginza, 5 Chome−9−5 銀座6F, this cozy yet sophisticated eatery is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates the delicate flavors of Japanese cuisine. Known for its expertly prepared conger eel and exquisite sake selection, it’s a place where food and culture intertwine seamlessly.

The menu at Hakarime Conger Eel・sake is a celebration of the traditional Japanese dish featuring conger eel, locally known as anago. The eel, often considered a delicacy in Japan, is prepared with precision, resulting in tender, melt-in-your-mouth bites that are perfectly complemented by the subtly smoky glaze it’s glazed with. Whether grilled to perfection over an open flame or served in a delicious simmered dish, the eel here stands out not just for its texture but for the flavors that really shine through with each bite.

What sets Hakarime apart from other dining spots in Ginza is its seamless fusion of traditional Japanese dining with a modern touch. The chefs here don't just focus on the presentation of their dishes but also on the full experience, ensuring each meal is accompanied by sake that enhances the flavors. Their sake selection is curated with care, featuring varieties that perfectly pair with the rich, savory conger eel dishes. From dry to sweet, the sake selection complements the nuanced flavors of the eel while offering an extra layer of sophistication to your meal.

One of the standout dishes at Hakarime is the eel donburi-a classic rice bowl topped with succulent pieces of conger eel glazed with a rich, savory sauce. The rice is perfectly cooked, providing a hearty base to balance the tenderness of the eel. For those who prefer a lighter option, the eel sashimi is a popular choice. It’s delicate, flavorful, and offers a glimpse into the skill of the chefs, who pay close attention to every detail, ensuring freshness and texture in every slice.

A big part of what makes dining at Hakarime so special is the personalized service. The waitstaff are knowledgeable and passionate about the menu, and they are more than happy to guide you through the sake selection or recommend dishes based on your preferences. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned connoisseur of Japanese cuisine, you’ll feel right at home as you dive into the restaurant’s exceptional offerings.

  • Best anago experience with extremely good price compared to quality. Required palette used to enjoy japanese/fish though but if you're used to fish/japanese cuisine give it a go!

  • We had the Omakase tempura set. My wife chose the 12 piece and I went with the 17 piece set. Beautifully prepared and presented. More than enough food for me (I am traditionally used to North American proportions).

  • It’s recommended to make a reservation before you visit. There are several set menu you can choose and there is a private room even for party of two. You can also sit at the counter to enjoy your meal. I went on a weekday with a reservation. The service was really good. By the way you have to take your shoes off before entering the restaurant. The three hour course with all you can drink menu was pretty satisfying (raw beer, whiskey, beverage, etc) Japanese rice wine is à la carte. 5 min walk from EastGinza station or 7 min walk from Ginza station, located at 6 F.

  • Opted for the lunch hakarime course. Had to take our shoes out in the restaurant and we were ushered into a private room. The lunch course was served as a 3-course meal: appetiser (includes sashimi, tempura, boiled radish, salad and tofu), main course, matcha ice cream. Food was excellent and staff were very attentive, serving the next course timely once we finished each course. Will be back!
